Veteran of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post #2776 conducted their annual Community Service awards at the Jenkins County Senior Citizens Center Wednesday, Feb. 24. Georgia’s 4-H program may be saved, despite a proposed plan by the University System of Georgia (UGA) that would eliminate it entirely. “The proposal that UGA officials offered included cutting the 4-H program to help meet the $60 million cuts to its budget by the state,” explained Jenkins County Extension Service Coordinator Wade Parker. The Jenkins County High School varsity team began its baseball season with two wins Feb. 27 in Burke County. The Eagles defeated Hephzibah 16- 1 and Burke County 19-5. Leading Hitters for the Eagles in the game against Hephzibah were: Akeem Young, 4-4, two doubles, four runs scored; Jake Knight, 2-3, with a double; and Spencer Clark and Dag Gay, 1-2, two walks and a double. Mr. Charles Franklin Royal Sr., 70, of Millen died Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Bethany Nursing Center. Funeral services were held 2 p. m. A special happening was the Doll Show presented by Marilyn Reddick. Residents and staff gathered to enjoy the more than 30 dolls and to hear Marilyn tell how she adopted and restored many of the dolls. She had about 50 outfits which she had made for the dolls. More...
