Ogeechee Outlaws place second in tourney
      The Ogeechee Outlaws travel baseball team for ages 11 and under won second place in the sixth annual August Slugfest in Dublin on Aug. 21. They are coached by Bobby James and Michael Mincey. The team defeated the Dublin Vipers in the semi-final game and lost to the Macon Cardinals.

BI-LO unaffected by FDA egg recall
      BI-LO today reassured customers that its eggs are perfectly safe to eat, as the company remains unaffected by the nationwide Food and Drug Administration recall. Both the FDA and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have linked the outbreak of salmonella specifically to two Iowa egg producers that have never sold eggs to BI-LO: Hillandale Farms and Wright County Egg.

Dr. Hamon travels to Ukraine for misison trip
      On Sept. 6, Dr. B.G. Hamon will board an airplane in Savannah to fly to Ukraine on another mission trip. He will daily conduct seminars, conferences and leadership shops. At night, he will minister in churches across the country. This will be the eighth time that Dr. Hamon will be making his “last trip.”

Local student writes President about oil spill
      The recent BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico captured Hunter Blackstone’s attention from the start. The then second-grader expressed concern to his father, Chris Blackstone of Millen, that the family would not be able to vacation in Destin, Fla. as planned due to the spill. He then set about the task of engineering a solution to the problem.

Magnolia Springs State Park is open
      Local and out-of-town visitors are invited to visit Magnolia Springs State Park and Bo Ginn Aquarium. The park and aquarium are open, although the aquarium must be entered through the park entrance. Hours of operation at the park are 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. daily with the park office open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
