CCA graduates 52 cadets

The first class of cadets for the soon-to-open Jenkins Correctional Center, owned and operated by Corrections Corporation of America (CCA), marched into West Millen Baptist Church single file, white uniform shirts creased to perfection, on Feb. 2 to receive their certificates for completing Basic Correctional Officer Training.

Jenkins County is the recipient of a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Employment Incentive Program (EIP) award in the amount of $259,192 from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. A public hearing on the matter was held Friday, Feb. 3, at the Jenkins County Courthouse.

Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) work crews will be performing maintenance work on State Route 23 in Jenkins County 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Monday Thursday this week.

The DOT has scheduled asphalt repair work with a single lane closure and/or flagman utilized for the work. Motorists should reduce their speed in these and all maintenance work zones.
