The Valedictorian and Salutatorian of the Jenkins County High School (JCHS) Class of 2008 were announced last week. Brookes Brinson, daughter of Matt and Jancey Brinson, is Valedictorian, and Dorothy (Dee Dee) Davis, daughter of Jimmy Davis and Regina Davis, is Salutatorian.

The Jenkins County High School Class of 2008 has 23 honor graduates. Brookes Brinson, valedictorian, daughter of Matt and Jancey Brinson, plans to attend the University of Georgia, majoring in Pre-medicine to become a pediatric oncologist.

Students tour MGC of Aviation

Local students visited the Middle Georgia College (MGC) of Aviation in Eastman on Friday, April 25. The students were welcomed by Jeremy Bynes. Bynes is the computer specialist for Middle Georgia College of Aviation campus and a 2003 graduate of Jenkins County High School.

Rocker signs golf scholarship with AASU

Bulloch Academy senior Mark Rocker will take his love of golf to the collegiate level when he tees it up for the Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU) Pirates next spring. Rocker, the 18-year-old son of Kirk and Judy Rocker of Jenkins County, has signed an athletic scholarship to play for the Pirates during his college career.

Students visit Plant Vogtle

Jenkins County High School BLAST, Grad.NET and Youth Apprentice students participated in a "career exploration" field trip on Thursday, April 3, to Plant Vogtle in Waynesboro. Mike McCracken gave the students an all-inclusive tour, which began at the Welcome Center, where exhibits and models of the facility are on display.

Storm hits county hard

A violent storm that roared through Jenkins County early Sunday morning caused wide spread damage throughout the area with two residents reporting minor injuries. Mobile homes were turned upside down; trees were uprooted and snapped like match sticks; roads were blocked by fallen trees and power lines; and homes and other buildings were damaged from high winds.

Residents want county to adopt road

Several residents of the BB Lane subdivision met with the Jenkins County Commissioners Tuesday, May 6, to request that the county adopt the road through the area into the county road system. Residents clean up despite rain

It rained the morning of Saturday, April 26, "Keep Jenkins Beautiful Day," but the day was not a washout. Although most participants were driven home by the rain, the JROTC, Sons of Confederate Veterans, Jenkins County High School (JCHS) Science Club, JCHS Beta Club, GSCA and Friends of the Millen Cemetery persevered through the showers.

Dr. Holton has served the local school system faithfully for the past 22 years, and she will be greatly missed not only on the professional level, but also personally by her many friends in Jenkins County.
