Miss Jenkins County Forestry Pageant

The "Miss Jenkins County Forestry Pageant" will be held Saturday, March 19, at the Millen Civic Center. For more information, contact Angie Lane at The Cutting Edge.

Free computer courses

Beginning Monday, Feb. 28, Jenkins County Family Enrichment Commission (JCFEC) will offer free computer courses instructed by AmeriCorps volunteer members. Courses to be offered include Microsoft Word, Power Point, Microsoft Excel, typing skills and more. Class will begin promptly at 5:30 p.m. and end at 7:30 p.m. Space is limited. Booster Club

The Jenkins County Athletic Booster Club will meet 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28, at the Planters Electric Membership Corp. office on U.S. Highway 25 North. All members and any prospective members are invited to attend.

Share Your Talent

Be part of the Jenkins County Centennial Celebration. The centennial event planned for February is a talent show/contest to give the county an opportunity to celebrate and enjoy local talent. Anyone desiring to participate can call the Jenkins County Chamber of Commerce at 982-5595. There is no entry fee, but entrants need to sign up in advance. Participants have the option of being judged (think American Idol) or performing without competing. Tickets to attend are $5. The talent show is sponsored by Millen Better Hometown and the local chamber of commerce.

Pancake Supper

The Millen Lions Club will hold its annual Pancake Supper 5-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28, at the Millen Community House. Tickets may be purchased from any Lions Club member.

Proceeds of the supper go toward funding eyeglasses for local residents who qualify.


The Jenkins County Recreation Department (JCRD) is currently holding registration for youth baseball and softball. Boys and girls 4-18 years of age may come by JCRD to register before the deadline of Friday, March 4. Those who wish to participate must bring a copy of their birth certificate and proof of insurance.

Those who are interested in coaching should sign up at JCRD before Friday, Feb. 25.

JCRD is also currently holding registration for anyone 21 years of age or older who is interested in officiating baseball and softball games. For further information, contact JCRD at 982-2943.
