Oratorical Contest

The Millen Optimist Club invites youth under 16 years of age to deliver speeches at its annual oratorical contest. The speeches should be between four and five minutes long. This year’s official topic is "My Hero is…"

The contest begins at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 13, at the Morison Grove Baptist Church. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded in both the boys’ and girls’ categories. Local winners will compete in zone and district competitions.

For more information, contact Elouise Wright at Jenkins County Middle School, (478) 982-1063, or Pamelia Dwight at Jenkins County Elementary School, (478) 982-5503.

Egg Hunt

Building a Better Hometown is planning its fourth community-wide Easter Egg Hunt 10-10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 26. This "egg-stravaganza" will be held at the baseball fields next to Edenfield’s Feed and Seed.

The hunt is being held at this time of day so that it will not interfere with any church or privately planned hunts.

There will be three age groups: walking to 3 years of age; 4-7 years of age; and 8-10 years of age.

There will be candy in each plastic egg plus prizes for specially marked eggs. Each child is asked to bring a bag or basket to hold the eggs he or she finds.
