The Chatter Box

By Deborah Bennett

All the recent rainfall and humid weather we’ve experienced lately has me feeling as though I’m living in a rainforest!

I can take the heat. When coupled with the humidity, however, I find that my energy level plummets, along with my hair, and I don’t want to do anything but find a cool, dry spot to hide. Just looking at my hot rollers and curling iron makes me break out in a sweat! So, I’ve developed a new appreciation for the "pony tail" and staying inside.

Besides, all the annoying biting and stinging insects that come with the hot and humid weather seem to think I’m a smorgasbord every time I step out the door, and my hair seems to be the "landing strip" for most of them.

My car has become an "oven" that heats up faster than a microwave. By the time the air conditioner starts to cool things down, I have to get out and turn it off again.

So, I think I’ll just do like the bears and hibernate. I’ll just do it in the summer months! Wake me up when October gets here, please.

I’ve been ask to publicize the address of Ronnie Perryman who was recently deployed to Iraq so that family and friends may write or send care packages to him. Care packages can consist of non-perishable food items, handy wipes and other toiletries. Ronnie’s address is: SFC Ronnie Perryman, Alpha Battery, Taskforce 118th, APO AE 09378.

Ronnie was recently featured in an article appearing in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. You may read it online at ajc.com.

You may have noticed a couple of new names in the newspaper in recent weeks.

Jessica Newberry and Diana Royal have joined our staff for the summer. Jessica is our summer intern, and Diana is our office assistant.

Jessica is a sophomore at the University of Georgia, and Diana is a staff writer for The Citizen.

We’re glad to have both of them!
