"Funtastic Reading" continues at the Jenkins County Memorial Library! Today, Wednesday, June 8, we will have Raggs’ Magic Circus. Children of all ages will enjoy a great program.

We will feature Peter Hart, who is with Atlanta’s Puppet Circus, at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 13. You won’t want to miss "The Greatest Little Show on Strings."

Also, on Wednesday at 11 a.m., we will have pre-school story time. All pre-school children and parents are invited to attend.

Would you like to renew your library books online? How about placing holds without leaving the house? Want to know what’s going on in your own account? All you need is your Personal Identification Number (PIN) to do it. If you don’t have one, or you’ve forgotten what it is, come in to the library and we’ll be happy to help.

While you’re at the library, check out the library’s ongoing book sale. We’re practically giving them away – paperbacks and magazines for only a dime, hardbacks for a quarter and the specials on the rack, (some of our best,) for a dollar apiece. It’s a great deal for good books, so take a look!

New Books at JCML

Messenger by Lois Lowry, who is best known for her Newbery Award winners The Giver and Number the Stars. Lowry is back with the tale of a young orphan standing on the edge of manhood. Matty is ready to earn his true name, but before he can prove that he is, he must run a message through the increasingly deadly Forest and persuade his foster-father’s daughter to return to Village.

Bangkok Tattoo by John Burdette, author of Bangkok 8, is a head-spinning novel that puts us back in the company of the inimitable Royal Thai Police detective Sonchai Jetpleecheep. We return to District 8 – the underbelly of Bangkok’s underworld – where a mutilated dead body is found. It’s bad: he was CIA. Check it out.

Genevieve by Eric Jerome Dickey is a twisted tale of intrigue, hidden identities and self-discovery. It is the tale of a man torn between the love of his beautiful wife and the sudden arrival of his wife’s sister – a mysterious and provocative woman who offers him the passion he craves, but at a steep price.

Cold Service by Robert B. Parker tells about Spenser – God’s gift to the Boston Crime Scene – and his sidekick, Hawk, seek revenge on a cold-blooded killer.

A good way to find great sites on the internet is to go to the library’s home page at www.sjrls.org and check out the following easy links.

"American Battle Monuments Commission" has information about the memorials, monuments, markers and 24 American burial grounds on foreign soil maintained by this commission. It includes an events calendar for observances such as Memorial Day. Features listings of individuals interred at the cemeteries and those missing in action from World War I, World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Also, it includes details about the commission’s work in planning visits, arranging for placing flowers and obtaining information about gravestones and other memorial markers.

"Brooklyn Botanic Garden: BBG’s Online Library of Gardening Information" features gardening articles and growing tips selected from Brooklyn Botanic Garden horticultural newsletters, handbooks and guides. Topics include gardening techniques, garden design, wildlife gardening, wildflowers, kitchen gardening (vegetables, fruits, herbs and recipes), houseplants, urban gardening, botany, ecology, plant conservation and pests and diseases.

"American Hiking Society" has a good site for you hikers out there. Whether you are a twice-a-year day-hiker, hard-core backpacker, land manager or trail club volunteer, it provides you with news and information on topics including trail conservation advocacy, events (such as for National Trails Day held on the first Saturday of June) and basic hiking topics (such as hiking safety). Also included is a link to the "Trail Finder," which provides information about trails in the United States and Canada.

"Girls Go Tech" encourages girls to develop and maintain an interest in math, science and technology. The site offers a booklet with tips for parents, science-related games, a brief description of hypertext markup language (HTML), career information and links to related sites and public service announcements (PSA). It’s from the Girl Scouts of the United States of America (GSA).

Library hours are: Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.; Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.; and Saturday, 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. We are closed on Thursday.
