Cowart named Bulloch Academy’s 2004-2005 Teacher of the Year

Bulloch Academy recently named Jean Cowart as their 2004-2005 Teacher of the Year during the Upper School Honors Day program. Cowart has been teaching for 41 years with 20 of those being at Bulloch Academy. She is currently a fourth grade teacher and the coordinator for the middle school spelling bee and the St. Jude Math-A-Thon.
Cowart is a graduate of Jenkins County High School and later attended Georgia Southern University, where she earned a bachelor of science degree in education. In her career, she has taught students in from first grade to ninth grade in Richmond County, at Buckhead Academy in Jenkins County and at Screven Academy in Screven County.
"I feel very humbled and honored to be chosen by my colleagues for this prestigious award," Cowart said. "Teaching is a noble profession, and I am blessed to be called into this profession. Being able to touch the lives of children and let them know that you care is truly one of the greatest rewards in life. My goal is to constantly strive to help children be successful in the world in which we live."
Cowart and her husband, Phil, have two daughters. Jeana is a first grade teacher at Jenkins County Elementary School, and Laura is a kindergarten teacher at Mill Creek Elementary School in Statesboro. They have six grandchildren.
