JCHS holds athletic banquet for spring sports

Awards were given out at Jenkins County High School’s spring athletic banquet for participation in cheerleading, baseball, tennis, basketball, golf and track.

Shantrell Sapp received the spirit award in cheerleading, and co-captain awards were received by Ashley Delay and Claire Morris. Delay, Morris and Hannah Groover all received the Anna Conway Scholarship. Most valuable awards were given to Morgan Johnson (ninth-grade), Jasmine DeLoach (10th-grade), Jamie Linder (11th-grade) and Abby Sharpe (12th-grade). Sarah Griffin was recognized as most improved.

In baseball, Gatorade awards were received by Austin Steed, most valuable player; Zac Clark, rookie of the year; and Jake Morris, Will-to-Win. Most valuable player was Tim Bragg, and Bobby Sharpe and James Monroe received best offensive and best defensive awards, respectively. Palmer Bragg received the coach’s award. Coaches from Region 3A chose Monroe and Tim Bragg as All-Region players.

Andrew Barnette, Brian Kirkland, Lindsey Purvis and Brookes Brinson all received most improved recognition in tennis. All tennis players received a medal.

Boys’ basketball honors went to Jasper Oglesby, best defensive; Vincente Colley, leading scorer and most valuable; Marvell Drummer, most improved; Kendrick Tobie, most assists; Austin Steed, Will-to-Win; and Jamar Holmes, rookie of the year. Girls receiving recognition in basketball were Jitera Washington, best defensive; Jalisa Smith, hustle award; Victoria Daughtry, most valuable player; Tiffany Parker, best offensive; and Darcelyn Kimbro, best free-throw percentage.

Bob Hoke and Katelyn Head were boys and girls low medalist winners for the golf team.

The girls’ track team is the region champ for the second year in a row, and girls receiving honors included: Latonia Thomas, best in hurdles; Allison Lloyd, best in speed; Jitera Washington, Will-to-Win and high point award; Brookes Brinson, best in distance; Ashley Ball, best in field events; and Brittany Thomas, most improved. Boys’ track participants who received awards were William Lowe, Will-to-Win; Kendrick Tobie, most valuable player and high point award; David Williams, best in distance; Dexter Pierce, best hurdler; Antonio Williams, best in field; Kendall Cooper, best in speed; Patrick Moody, rookie of the year; and Martevious Morris, most improved. Performance of the year was awarded to Kendrick Tobie, Patrick Moody, Cornelius Williams and Kendall Cooper whose 4x100 relay team set a state record at the state track meet with a time of 42.32 seconds.
