JCHS VOCA attends conference

Members of the Jenkins County High School (JCHS) Vocational Chapters of America (VOCA) Organization recently attended the 58th annual Georgia VOCA State Leadership Conference at Jekyll Island.

VOCA State President, Trent Daniel from Upson-Lee High School, presided over the event, which had over 800 students from Georgia in attendance. This year’s theme was "VOCA: Explore a World of Opportunities."

Students who participated in the competitive events were: Jenika Branch, computer applications, first place; James Monroe, entrepreneurship; and Latonia Lovett, prepared speech. The chapter was awarded a superior rating for entering a competitive notebook in the event of Chapter of the Year. Shonda Pierce and Yolanda Jeff received this award on behalf of JCHS VOCA. Joshua Grier was the Region VI candidate for VOCA State President but was defeated. Also, Staci Johnson, VOCA State Historian for 2004-2005, bid farewell as newly elected VOCA State Parliamentarian, Chickeena Rowe, was installed. Rochelle Parker served as delegate.

VOCA advisor, Annette Cobb, received recognition as a 100 percent VOCA Participation Coordinator. She also served on the 2004-2005 VOCA State Leadership Team.

Stacey Manson, CVAE paraprofessional, accompanied Cobb. Also attending were chaperones Rosa Holley and Sharon Groover.

Assisting JCHS VOCA throughout the year were Jenkins County School Superintendent Hayward Cordy, the Jenkins County Board of Education, JCHS administrators, faculty and staff, parents and members of the community. VOCA sponsors were First National Bank, Regions Bank, Gay Loan & Finance, Millen Loan & Finance and Sharon Groover.
