Library News

By Wilma Gainey

Good things are happening at your library. This month we have featured the beautiful needlework of Ms. Betty Coulter. If you have not seen this exhibit please come by to see her work.

At 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 6, the library will present Printmaking and Ink Painting, a "Just My Imagination" workshop. The program is free and is recommended for families with children 6 years of age and older. The workshop introduces the world of watercolors by offering participants the opportunity to sketch, complete a contour drawing and paint a still life. Jackie Slayton will discuss printmaking and sumi-e painting and brush stroke techniques.

We’ve got another load of neat books for you to check out at the library:

Natural Cures "They" Don’t Want You to Know About (Updated Edition) by Kevin Trudeau. If you’ve seen his show you know that Trudeau is anything but approving of how the U.S. Food and Drug Administration runs the approval process for the food that we buy in our corner grocery today. Now, read his indictment of the American way of eating and doing business in the food industry, as well as his views on pharmaceutical "Big Business" and the harm they are doing even as they tell us that it’s all for "our own good." In addition, he offers information on alternative therapies, medical practices, philosophies, and – most importantly – possible cures to help your body regain its natural health and vigor.

The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella. Workaholic attorney Samantha Sweeting has just made a huge mistake, one that will bar her from ever getting the partnership she has worked so hard to earn. Leaving the office, she finds herself getting lost, getting hired as a housekeeper – and having to learn very quickly how to cook, clean, sew and even open the ironing board. What could possibly go wrong next?

Long Time Gone by J. A. Jance. Fans of Jance will definitely want to get their hands on this, the latest of her J. P. Beaumont series. Beaumont’s in a new city, with a new boss and a very old case on his hands, a murder that took place over fifty years ago. But the conspiracy that killed before will do whatever it takes to keep itself hidden from the law… add to that an ex-partner in the worst trouble of his life, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster. Will Beaumont be able to pull things out of the fire this time?

No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy. It’s the modern day Southwest, in the borderlands between Texas and Mexico, and Llewelyn Moss has just found a pile of corpses, a load of heroin and over $2 million in cash.

It isn’t long before there are more murder victims, and Moss and his wife find themselves in deadly danger.
