Each year the Jenkins County Chamber of Commerce sponsors a Memorial Tree lighting to kick-off the Christmas season in Millen and Jenkins County.

This year Star Lights have been purchased in memory as follows: Nancy Wolfinger by Jack Kent; Ben and Janie Young Sr. by Henry Young; Freddie Griffin by Henry Young; Ronald Sharpe by Henry Young; Melissa Coney by Henry Young; Shella Reese by Henry Young; Nan Reynolds by Henry Young; and Dealva Morris by Henry Young. Tree Lights have been purchased in memory as follows: Gene Mock and Darlo Kicklighter by Gloria Mock; Grady B. Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Royal and infant daughter Becky by Joyce, Becky and Gailyn; N.T. Clarke by Arnold and Virginia Clarke; Willie Flakes by Arnold and Virginia Clarke; and Mr. and Mrs. William P. Jones Sr. by John T. and Paula Herrington and children.

Proceeds from the event help fund a scholarship for a deserving Jenkins County High School senior who is selected through an application process.
