Patriotic celebration
to be held July 7
Again this year Jenkins County residents will have the opportunity to enjoy a spectacular fireworks show in celebration of the nation's birthday. Activities for the fifth annual Patriotic Celebration will begin at 7: 30 p.m. Friday, July 7, and include fireworks, a variety of musical entertainment and activities for children.
Come, bring blankets, lawn chairs, a picnic dinner and friends and enjoy a fun filled evening. Admission is free and a concession stand will be open, proceeds to benefit the Jenkins County Recreation Department.
Financial contributions are being sought to sponsor the fireworks. Anyone who would like to contribute may call the Jenkins County Chamber of Commerce office at 982-5595.
The event is sponsored by Millen Better Hometown and the chamber of commerce.
Political Forum
The Millen Optimist Club will sponsor a second Political Forum 7 p.m. Monday, July 10, at the Jenkins County Agriculture Center. All political candidates in the July 18 Primary Election are invited to participate.
Local residents are encouraged to attend.
Mobile
Mammography University Hospital's Breast
Health Center Mobile Mammography unit comes to Jenkins County the second Thursday of every month. Registration is required. Call the Jenkins County Hospital at (478) 982-4221 and ask the x-ray department to schedule a mammogram.
Most insurance companies and Medicare pay for one screening mammogram a year. The American Cancer Society recommends every woman 40 years of age or older have a yearly mammogram.
Magnolia Springs
State Park
Magnolia Springs State Park will celebrate the 75th anniversary of Georgia State Parks with a major program in November. As part of the program, the park staff is seeking the assistance of local citizens who have photographs, documents, letters, postcards or other items dealing with the history of Magnolia Springs State Park, Lincoln State Park or the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp at Magnolia Springs. Any items that you are willing to share can be scanned or photographed by the Magnolia Springs staff. The assistance of anyone who is willing to share his or her reminiscences of Magnolia Springs State Park, Lincoln State Park or the CCC camp on film is also needed.
