Schools open Monday, Aug. 7
Jenkins County schools will open for students Monday, Aug. 7, under the leadership of the new school superintendent, Joan Blackwood. Ms. Blackwood states that the theme, "Soaring to New Heights," will be the guide for the faculties, staff members and students of the school system.
Ms. Blackwood administers the work of the school system under the direction of a five member board of education as follows: Carroll Gay, chairman; Roderick Campbell, vice chairman; Bobbye Q. Cobb, Roy Cook and Vickie Odom.
Central Office support personnel are as follows: Marie Garvin, secretary to the superintendent; Melissa Williams, director of instructional services; Ray Miller, director of administrative services; Janet Fields, business manager; Jo Ann Shumake, payroll clerk; Johnnie Mae Sherrod, accounts payable/ purchasing clerk ; Emma Whiters, director of special services; Chris Hodges, school psychologist; Donna Hodges, psychology intern; Vivian Jenkins, special services secretary; Debra Herrmann, director of nutrition; Pattie McLeod, school food service secretary/bookkeeper; Larry Adams, maintenance supervisor and Joe Hendley, maintenance assistant.
The Jenkins County educational system is comprised of three schools, Jenkins County Elementary School (PreK-5), Jenkins County Middle School (6-8) and Jenkins County High School (9-12).
The JCES operates under the direction of Judy Holton, principal; Cynthia McNeely, assistant principal (PreK-2); Deborah Fountain, assistant principal/social worker (3-5); Jessica Reese and Marie Taylor, school secretaries.
