Primary Runoff Election is Aug. 8

The Primary Runoff Election will be held Tuesday, Aug. 8, with all regular polling places being open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Jenkins County Election Superintendent Wanda Burke called attention to the fact that voters must vote the same party as they did in the July 18 Primary Election.

"If you voted in the Democratic Primary on July 18, you are only qualified to vote in the Democratic runoff. If you voted in the Republican Primary on July 18, you are only qualified to vote in the Republican runoff," she explained.

Anyone who did not vote in the Democratic or Republican Primary on July 18, may vote in either the Democratic or Primary runoff.

Two races in the Republican Primary that are to be voted upon and the candidates are: Secretary of State, Karen Handel and Bill Stephens; and Commissioner of Agriculture, Gary Black and Brian Kemp.

Democratic races and candidates are: Lieutenant Governor, Greg K. Hecht and Jim Martin; and Secretary of State, Gail Buckner and Darryl Hicks.
