4-H News
Anna Burgess CEA 4-H & Youth

"This was one of the best experiences I've had in 4H since I started years ago. 4-H gives you the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends." - Adam Lanier, 12th grade 4-Her at JCHS
Last week I had the honor of taking two of Millen's finest young people to State 4-H Congress in Atlanta. This is a prestigious event and Millen was well represented by Charlotte Davis and Adam Lanier. Charlotte competed in the Dairy and Milk Science project area, giving a wonderful demonstration and speech on Johne's (yah-neas) disease in Dairy cattle. Adam competed in the Fruits, Vegetables and Nuts category giving his demonstration and speech on drip irrigation in pecans. This was the first state competition either of them had participated in and they came out with state honors, placing third in their respective project areas.

Flamingo Flocking

As many of you have probably noticed, the flamingos are geared up and ready to go. Beginning Monday, 4-Hers will deliver these birds to homes and businesses around Millen. To have them removed and placed in the yard of your choice simply call the 4-H Office at 982-4408 and we will have someone come and replace the birds. To help counteract cost of 4-H events and supplies we are asking for a small donation of $15.00 to relocate the birds. If they land in your yard and you do not wish to participate in this fun event to help the youth in the community, we will come and remove the birds immediately.

"State Congress was a great learning opportunity and I feel honored to have been able to attend such an event." - Charlotte Davis, 10th grade 4-Her at JCHS
Forestry Judging

Forestry judging practice will begin this Sunday, July 30th. Practice will begin promptly at 2:00pm at the 4-H Office. The state competition, on September 6, will be here before you know it. Therefore it is extremely important you attend every practice till then to make sure you are prepared.

Mini Booths

Just a quick reminder that if your child wants to do a mini booth for the fair this year, please bring them by as soon as possible. The more we can get done before school starts back the better! If you would like more information about 4-H or upcoming events, please feel free to call or stop by the office.
