Family Night at the Jenkins County Elementary School (JCES) was a rootin' tootin' good time for all.

Approximately 100 students, parents, grandparents and community members came to the JCES Media Center Nov. 2, to participate in the cowboythemed Family Night. The evening started with Ray Miller reading "Bubba the Cowboy Prince" to the students. Miller then tested the student's imaginations by showing them his invisible book.

After story time, a cowboy/ cowgirl contest was staged. Thirteen students, ages 3-10, participated in the contest. In the

pre-K-second-grade boys division, Jacob Oglesby placed third, Jeremy Gay placed second and Kameraun Sapp was the winner. In the pre-K-second-grade girls division, Madison Cocke placed third, Courtney Bassett placed second and Taylor Cocke was the winner. In the third-fifthgrade division Tyler Wagner placed third, Sydney Clark placed second and Austin Wagner placed first.

After the costume contest, the students participated in several cowboy activities including a lasso contest and a beanbag toss.

While the students were playing, the parents were buying books for their children and the school. Over $300 worth of books were chosen from the teacher's wish lists and donated to the classroom libraries. The rest of the profits from the book fair will be used to purchase books and resources for the JCES Media Center.

The JCES media staff thanks the parents and community members that supported literacy through purchasing books from the book fair. The next book fair will be held in March.
