Fourth-grade students at Jenkins County Elementary School recently attended the production, "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere," at Georgia Southern University.
Mrs. Meralyn Smith of Statesboro donated the money for the students to attend the play in memory of her mother,
Mrs. Marjorie Edenfield. Mrs Edenfield taught fourth through seventh grades in the Jenkins County School System in the early 1940s. She had a great love for all forms of literature, and she shared her love of books and poems with her students as well as her three children. She was able to encourage a life long interest of literature in their lives.
The fourth graders at JCES are grateful to Ms. Smith for sharing her memory of her mother by making provisions for them to attend the play. This was a great learning experience for all of the students and one that will not be forgotten.
