Michael Joe Thompson, of Sylvania died Dec. 4

Michael Joe Thompson, 55, of Sylvania died Monday, Dec. 4, 2006 at East Georgia Regional Hospital in Statesboro.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Ellis Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Karen Zeigler and the Rev. Steve Sirmons officiating. Interment followed in Ellis Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Thompson, an Upson County native, was retired from maintenance at Torrington Company in Sylvania. He was also a member of Ellis Chapel United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Homer Mulkey Thompson.

Survivors include his daughter, Crystal Bramblett of Metter; mother, Eva Jean Wimberly Thompson of Sylvania; sister, Debra T. West of Sylvania; brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry H. and Brenda Thompson of Sylvania and Denny H. and Gale Thompson of Statesboro; several aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers included Jimmy Thompson, Robert Thompson, Benje Thompson, Jason Lindsey, Aaron Toy and James Thompson.

Honorary pallbearers were the men of Ellis Chapel United Methodist Church.

Visitation was held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5. Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. (912) 564-2331.
