W. “Jack” Jones, 67, of Quitman died Dec. 14 W. “Jack” Jones, 67, of Quitman died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006 at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 17, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Elder Dwight Marshall and Elder Tommy Rountree officiating. Burial followed in the Wayfare Cemetery. He was born in Emanuel County to the late Clyde and Alma Hester Jones and had lived in Waynesboro before moving to this area six months ago. He attended the Wayfare Primitive Baptist Church. Mr. Jones was a plantation manager and farmer for many years. He volunteered his time for ministry at Rosemont Heights Baptist Church in Waynesboro. Mr. Jones loved many outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing and loved to watch and participate with his grandchildren in these activities and sports. He was always helping his grandchildren to be mindful of their safety. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Jones of Quitman; two daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and Marshall Lanier of Millen and Teresa and John Newton of Quitman; his grandchildren, Adam and Justin Lanier of Millen and Joshua and Wesley Newton of Quitman; one brother and sister-in-law, Carlton and Barbara Jones of Swainsboro; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Peggy and Billy Dailey of Stillmore and Sara and Randy Moore of Wadley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
