Twenty-two of the best spellers in the fourth and fifth grades at Jenkins County Elementary School gathered in the media center Thursday, Nov. 30, for the JCES 2006-2007 Spelling Bee.
Participants consisted of children who had placed first or second in their classroom spelling bee.
After several rounds of competition, Gaige Ridings, Ty’dre Lee, Diamond Bynes and Justice DeLoach were left standing. These four students will represent JCES in the system-wide spelling bee on Jan. 19.
Justice DeLoach was declared winner with Diamond Bynes as the runner-up.
All the students who participated were given a certificate and were congratulated by Dr. Judy Holton, JCES principal and Sylvia Gay, JCES media specialist and system spelling bee coordinator.
