At the December meeting of Swainsboro Technical College (STC) Board of Directors, Rhonda Norris and Don Wilkes were recognized as completing the requirements to become the TCDA (Technical College Di- rectors’ Association) Certified Board Members.

Dr. Richard Thornton, interim president of STC, awarded the certificate to Mrs. Norris and Mr. Wilkes and commended the entire board on the accomplishment

of having every board member certified and joining the elite group of Georgia technical colleges that have 100 percent board certification.

Mrs. Norris serves as the STC board member from Treutlen County and Mr. Wilkes from Emanuel County. They join Pam Dwight (representing Jenkins County), Pam Griner (representing Candler County), Erma Jenkins (representing Emanuel County), Richard Price (representing Candler County) and Bob Via (representing Emanuel County) as TCDA Certified Board Members.

Members of the local boards of directors of technical colleges are automatically members of TCDA, which provides training to local board members. The certification process through TCDA provides for workshops and other criteria to be met to qualify for designation as a certified board member.

Dr. Thornton commented, “We are very proud of the commitment and dedication of the individuals that comprise the Swainsboro Technical College Board of Directors in their accomplishment of becoming a governing board that is 100 percent certified by TCDA. They are an outstanding group, and their leadership is a great asset to this institution.”

STC’s Board of Directors schedules eight meetings a year. They review the budget, evaluate institutional effectiveness, review DTAE standards and discuss general information relative to the college and the service area.
