I have received several inquiries from people wanting to know where to send cards and letters to Arthur Milton who was wounded in Iraq. His mother tells me that he is still in Germany and that as soon as the information is available she will get it to me. So, just stay tuned, and I will pass it along to you.

I had the opportunity to talk with former resident Dan Stephens this week when he called to place a class reunion notice in the newspaper. I believe he said it was their 40th reunion.

Dan, as most of you will recall, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. D.L. Stephens. Mr. Stephens was the industrial arts teacher at Jenkins County High School for many years, and Mrs. Stephens was the librarian. The Stephens moved away after retiring but have such fond memories of JCHS that the family annually sponsors a scholarship at the school.

Dan tells me that his dad is still doing well. It is always nice to hear from our former residents.

A portrait of Ruth Newton Spiers who was librarian at the Jenkins County Memorial Library for 32 years will be unveiled 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 4, at the library.

Mrs. Spiers made a lasting impression on many children who visited the library and developed a love of books, born in part from her nurturing and guidance. Many of our community will also recall that she was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader for years. I was fortunate enough to have been one of her "girls".

The public is invited to attend the event at the library.
