Syl-View Happenings
The many happenings at Syl-View included an educational program on President's Day. Staff and residents wore red, white and blue ribbons in honor of the holiday. The discussion was lively as the residents recalled the presidents they remembered. Mary Bennett provided laughter as she stated that she remembered George Washington. She made it fun. Many remembered Franklin Roosevelt and the program he started. Many recalled the W.E.A. and C.C.C. camps. A few recalled Hoover days, but these were memories of depression and need. They recalled the death of President Kennedy and the resignation of Nixon. It was a very interesting discussion.
On Fat Tuesday, we celebrated Mardi Gras with an inhouse parade. We decorated the wheelchairs and walkers with the colors of green, gold and purple. The staff and residents wore masks and beads. With Mardi Gras music leading the parade along with Queen Alma Almand, the residents marched the halls and gave beads to the room bound. We enjoyed a slice of King's cake baked by volunteer Jerry Hunter. This was a fun time. Dorothy Fountain recalled attending Mardi Gras in New Orleans. In our minds, we were celebrating in top style.
Don Scarborough of Memorial Baptist Church led the Bible study, and Willene Rickert played the piano as Doug Schriner led the singing. This is one of our many worship experiences each week.
We had a craft time as the residents made valentines to share with family and friends.
A Purple Party was a special time for a small group activity. We recalled the fruits and vegetables that are purple, and the many flowers that are purple were named. We served purple punch and cake iced and decorated with purple. It was just a silly idea to capture the imagination of the residents. We often use color as a theme for our activities.
The Ms. Syl-View Pageant will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, March 15. This is a great time for our ladies. The staff and family members feel a real pride as their ladies take part. We invite you to attend. It is fun and inspiration for everyone to enjoy.
The Square Dance with Mr. K singing and the Screven Squares dancing is the fourth Monday night of each month. It is great to have family and friends in attendance.
We are looking forward to great Syl-View Happenings in the months to come. We are excited about the Livestock Festival and pageant and the privilege of having a float in the parade.
I pray we will be able to meet the deadlines for the Volunteers of the Year and that I can finish the scrapbooks in time. There are so many wonderful opportunities to be involved in through Georgia Health Care.
