Lady Eagles Softball Tryouts

The Jenkins County Lady Eagles softball tryouts will be held at the Jenkins County Recreation Department. The ninth through twelfth grade girls' tryouts will be held 4 p.m. Monday, July 30, through Friday, Aug. 3; and the C-team seventh and eighth grade girls' tryouts will be held 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, through Friday, Aug. 3.

Physical and parental permission sheets must be completed before tryouts.

Free Legal Help

Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) staff will be in Jenkins County to meet with senior citizens wanting free legal help on a first-come, first-serve basis. Senior citizens, 60 years of age or older, who have a civil (non-criminal) legal issue and want free legal help may meet with a GLSP staff member 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, at the Jenkins County Senior Citizens Center, 998 College Avenue.

The GLSP office that serves Jenkins County is located at 209 Seventh St., Suite 400, Augusta. You may call the office at 1(800) 248-6697 for help with legal problems. JCES parents election

Jenkins County Elementary School (JCES) has scheduled a School Council Parent Election for 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, in the school cafeteria. Two parents will be elected to serve on the council for the next school year. Parents or guardians of students enrolled in JCES are eligible to serve as parent members of the school council. The law excludes parents of students in the school who are also employees of the school system who work at JCES to be eligible to serve on the council. If you have questions concerning the school council, contact Dr. Judy Holton at 982-5503 or come by the school office. All eligible parents/guardians are encouraged to attend and participate in the election.

Cancer Society meeting

The American Cancer Society (ACS) will hold a meeting 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, in the education room of the East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro. The public is invited to attend and learn about the mission of the ACS, what is taking place locally and how to help in the fight against cancer. Miss Sampler Pageant

The Miss Sampler Pageant will be held 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at the Screven County High School Auditorium. The age divisions are: Baby, Toddler, Tiny, Little, Petite, Junior, Teen Miss and Miss. Arts and Crafts Sampler

The 27th Sylvania Arts & Crafts Sampler and Family Fun Day will be held 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, on the Screven County Courthouse lawn. Walk For Wishes

The inaugural Statesboro Walk for Wishes to benefit the Make- A-Wish Foundation of Georgia and Alabama will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at the M.C Anderson Multiplex/Recreation Activity Center (RAC) on the Georgia Southern University campus.
