Anderson to conduct Augusta Chorale
Dr. Phyllis W. Anderson, music consultant at Zion Baptist Church in Millen, will conduct the Augusta Chorale at the chorale's Christmas concert 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at the Paine College Gilbert- Lambuth Memorial Chapel.
Dr. Anderson will lead the 60-voice Augusta Chorale in its first performance of George Handel's Messiah. The Christmas concert is dedicated to Futhey R. Babcock, a charter member who co-founded the Augusta Chorale in 1985. The 95-year-old Babcock, who is the oldest chorale member, is singing in the concert.
Dr. Anderson conducted her first workshop at Zion Baptist Church in April 2006, at the invitation of June Powell, youth worker at Zion. Powell had the vision for the workshop, and she invited Dr. Anderson to present her children's ministry workshop, "How to Plan a Bible Rally at your Church." Dr. Anderson and Powell are both public school educators. Dr. Anderson works in Columbia County and Powell works in Jenkins County. They are looking forward to other workshops and seminars in 2008.
Dr. Anderson works as a music specialist at Euchee Creek Elementary School. She has earned degrees from Norfolk State University, Ohio State University and The University of Georgia. Prior to working in Columbia County schools, she was the Paine College choir director and professor of music.
