Edenfield wins spelling bee again

EMILY EDENFIELD
The Jenkins County Middle School (JCMS) Spelling Bee was held Thursday, Dec. 7, at the Academic Boosters Club meeting, and Emily Edenfield was named the 2006 JCMS Spelling Bee Champion. This is the second year in a row that Emily has triumphed as the top speller at the middle school. She is in the seventh grade and is the daughter of Tracy and Susan Edenfield of Millen.

The first round of the bee took place Nov. 28, in the middle school homerooms as a written competition. Winners in each grade who advanced on to the second round were as follows:

• Sixth grade – Nicholas Colbert, Jonquette Sanders, Dalton Davis, James E. Williams, Tajuam Austin, Jaymee Moore, Donnie Gay, Christopher Brady, Tykeesha Anthony, Kristopher Fitch, Kasara Flakes, Jared Orvin and Shanique Rhodes;

 Seventh grade – Jessica Williams, Emily Edenfield, Morgan Royal, Marvecia Gordon, Karen Yarbrough, Chassity Wilkerson, James DeLoach, Justin Boatwright, Tiller Gay, Marc Holley, Callie Dailey, Trey Black and Mason Davis; and

 Eighth grade – Colton Wilkerson, Arlener Wright, Carneshia Bell, Spencer Lee, Margaret Dickens, Angel Cunningham, Whitley Clark, La’deshia Simpkins, Ayana Walker and Jacob Lewis.

TAJUAN AUSTIN
The second round of the spelling bee consisted of the contestants spelling orally in front of a live audience. The winners of the second round were as follows:  Sixth-grade runner-up: Jaymee Moore;  Sixth-grade champion: Tajuan Austin;  Seventh-grade runner-up: Marc Holley;  Seventh-grade champion: Emily Edenfield;  Eighth-grade runner-up: Arlener Wright; and

 Eighth-grade champion: Spencer Lee. This third and final round of the bee included the three grade winners.
