Datebook Rec. department registration The Jenkins County Rectreation Department is now holding baseball/softball registration. Parents with children ages 4- 14 may come by the recreation department to signup. You must bring a copy of the child's birth certificate and insurance information, and you will be required to fill out a registration form for each child. Registration fee is due at the time of signup. The deadline for registration is 4:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23. Also, the recreation department is now holding registration for coaches. If anyone is interested in becoming a coach, he/ she should come by and fill out a coach's application. The deadline for signing up is 4:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23. Applicants are subject to a criminal background check. Athletic Banquet The annual Athletic Banquet to honor fall athletes will be held 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, in the Jenkins County Middle/High lunchroom. The event is sponsored by the Jenkins County Athletic Booster Club and will honor the softball, competition cheerleading, girls and boy cross country and football teams. The banquet will include the awarding of medals, recognition of athletes and their coaches and a barbeque meal. Tickets for the event are $7 and may be purchased at the door. Guitar lessons Guitar lessons are being offered at the Jenkins County Recreation Department. Those interested in signing up are asked to call Eric Williams at 706-871-6586 or 478-982-2029. Beginner and intermediate lessons are available on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays. Space is limited. 39ers to meet The 39ers will hold their monthly meeting noon Monday, Jan. 15, at the Millen Community House. All members are encouraged to attend. A meal will be provided. Free legal help to low-income people Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) provides free legal help to low-income people with civil (non-criminal) legal problems. A staff person from GLSP will travel to meet with people wanting free legal help in Jenkins and Screven counties each month on a first-come, firstserve basis. The next scheduled appointment will be 9-11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, at the Senior Citizens Center, 209 East Ogeechee Street, Sylvania. Free legal help to senior citizens Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) staff will be in Jenkins County to meet with senior citizens wanting free legal help, on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you are a senior citizen 60 years of age or older and have civil (non-criminal) legal issue, we may be able to help you. A staff person from GLSP will be in Jenkins County to meet with seniors who want free legal help 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, at the Jenkins County Senior Center, 998 College Avenue, Millen.
