Abandoned track discovered
A railroad track running adjacent to the present Norfolk Southern Railroad on East Cotton Avenue was unearthed last week in the vacant lot across from Regions Bank. The track was discovered as preparation work began for a Millen Rotary Club project to establish the site as a farmers/flea market. Frank Edenfield recalled that the now abandoned track was once used by the railroad to deliver supplies to a mule barn and oil company that had been located on the lot.
