Confederate

Memorial Service

A Confederate memorial service for Guilford Peevy will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, at Doubleheads Baptist Church Cemetery located at the corner of Captola Road and 301 in Screven County (between Sylvania and Cooperville).

The service is sponsored by Margaret Jones #27 United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Athletic Booster

Club

The Jenkins County Athletic Booster Club will meet Monday, Jan. 22, at 7 p.m. at Planters Eletric offices on Highway 25 North.

Please come and help support athletics at our middle school and high school. Plans are being made for our spring fundraiser, the Boston Butt sale.

Volunteer fire department meeting

An informational meeting for the purpose of organizing a volunteer fire department in the West Old Savannah Road area of the county will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, at the shop of David Barron on Rosemary Church Road.

Residents of the area are encouraged to attend.

SCV Meeting

The Buckhead Fort Lawton Brigade of the Sons of Confed- erate Veterans will meet 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, at Cindy's Café on Cotton Ave. "Greet and Eat" is at 6:30 p.m. with the meeting following.

The program will be by Steve Burke on the 5th Georgia Calvary.

The meeting is free and open to the public.

Free legal help to

low-income people

Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) provides free legal help to low-income people with civil (non-criminal) legal problems. A staff person from GLSP will travel to meet with people wanting free legal help in Jenkins and Screven counties each month on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The next scheduled appointment will be 9-11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, at the Senior Citizens Center, 209 East Ogeechee Street, Sylvania.

Free legal help to

senior citizens

Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) staff will be in Jenkins County to meet with senior citizens wanting free legal help, on a first-come, firstserve basis. If you are a senior citizen 60 years of age or older and have a civil (non-criminal) legal issue, we may be able to help you. A staff person from GLSP will be in Jenkins County to meet with seniors who want free legal help 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, at the Jenkins County Senior Center, 998 College Avenue, Millen.
