Talmadge Lewis, 73, of Millen died January 13 Talmadge Lewis, 73, of Millen passed into eternal rest Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007 at Jenkins County Hospital. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, at Oak Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Jamie Archer officiating. Burial followed in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Mr. Lewis was born in Jenkins County. He was a retired track supervisor for Norfolk-Southern Railroad and was a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Hill. He was an avid gardener and master wood worker. He loved and served his Lord Jesus Christ being ordained a deacon in 1974. Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, John H. Lewis and Winnie Dickey Lewis; his sister, Gladys Burlison; and a brother, James H. "Buck" Lewis. He leaves to mourn his passing his treasured wife of 53 years, Doris Coleman Lewis; a son, Talmadge Keith (Delores) Lewis of Claxton; daughter, Donna Lynn (Darryl) Drake; four grandchildren, John Henry Lewis, Jeremy Seth Lewis, Juliana Lorene Drake and Lewis Conley Drake; three sisters, Kathleen Rabitsch of Millen, Betty Jean Beard of Sylvania and Grace Royal of Richmond Hill. Active pallbearers were Perry Beard, Mark Beard, Brian Knight, Lon Rabitsch, George Hall and Charles Royal. Honorary pallbearers were deacons and members of the Prayer Warriors Sunday School Class and Lanier Davenport. Visitation was Monday, Jan. 15, at Crowe-Fields Funeral Home. |
