2007 Relay For Life kicks off

The official Relay For Life (RFL) season is set to begin this week in Jenkins County. The RFLCommittee will start off the season by hosting a Kick-off Rally and Chili Cook Off 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, in the Planters Electric Membership meeting room.

The menu for the Chili Cook Off will consist of many different pots of chili and all the fixings, including cornbread, various desserts and drinks.

The public is cordially invited to come out to this event, sample the different kinds of chili and give a donation for their favorite. The chili that receives the most money will win the coveted "People's Choice Award". All proceeds for this event will go to the American Cancer Society's 2007 RFLin Jenkins County. Take-out plates will also be available for those who want to drop in and make a donation.

Besides coming out for the chili, this event will provide an opportunity for the public to ask questions and obtain more information on how to be a part of the RFL. Information packets will be available for those interested in team recruitment, corporate sponsorship and for registration of cancer survivors.

Those in attendance will be registered for door prizes to be given away at the close of the rally.

It takes the hard work of many dedicated volunteers to

make the Relay successful. Last year's RFLin Jenkins

County was a huge success, raising over

$30,000. This year's goal is to raise $32,500.

The 2007 Relay is scheduled for May, and

the theme for this year's RFLwill be

"Carnival of Hope". "Carnival of Hope".

The Relay committee hopes for an even greater year with increased

community participation and support.

Cancer is a disease that will

affect everyone, whether personally

or with a friend or

loved one. The American Cancer Society's mission every day is to promote cancer awareness, provide

hope and services for those

diagnosed with cancer and

to fund cancer researchers

all over the world that

one day a cure for this dreaded disease might be found.
