Syl-View Happenings
By Betty Scarborough

There is a sweet spirit in the air as we celebrate Valentine's Day. We feel like it's Valentine's all year as people reach out in love to the residents.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays our Bingo Angels are here to help with the game and to bring love and laughter, and to those who help provide prizes, we are grateful.

The ladies of Memorial Baptist Church provided homemade chili and soup for us to serve on Groundhog Day. This is a little taste of home. We have hopes of an early spring, as the groundhog did not see his shadow. We were happy to celebrate the day.

We were blessed last Monday morning to have cosmetology students from Ogeechee Technical College come and give hand massages and manicures to the ladies. This was a special time of pampering, and we appreciate our partnership with the college.

On Thursday, there was a cold rain and wind, but Linda Morton and the Sing-Along group were there to play and sing hymns and gospel songs. There was a feeling of love and a warmth of fellowship. Rosie Jones was enjoying the music and singing every song. This volunteer group has been filling our Thursday afternoons with music and love for more than 25 years.

The Valentine party was held Friday, Feb. 9, with Mr. K singing songs of love. There was love and joy in the air, and sweet refreshments were provided by the volunteers.

We celebrated the 87th birthday of one of our faithful volunteers - Anita Thompson. McBride Methodist Church hosted the January Birthday Party. Anita is a member of the church, and members recognized her along with the residents who have a birthday in January. She received flowers and a basket of treats.

We are working on our Mardi Gras celebration, and we will announce our Ms. Syl-View Pageant date soon. Alma Almand has been a very good representative during her reign as Ms. Syl-View, and she will preside over the pageant. It promises to be a fun time, as always.

I have missed several weeks of The Millen News because my husband, Don, had surgery again. We are grateful that he received a good report at his check-up. I look forward to getting back in the swing. Our residents enjoy and appreciate the copies of The Millen News each week. Please come to visit soon.
