'The Sound of Music' comes to Millen

A live production of Rogers and Hammerstein's "The Sound of Music" will be presented in Millen 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at the Old Pal Theater on Cotton Avenue. Tickets are $12 each and may be purchased at the Charm Barn or the Jenkins County Chamber of Commerce office.

The performance, by Richard Sussmann Productions, is directed by Tony Phillips and is being brought to Millen through a $1,000 grant to Millen Better Hometown from the Grass Arts Program. Other funding for the musical will come from advertising by local merchants.

"The Sound of Music" premiered in 1965, and at that time, became the largest grossing motion picture of all time. The live production to appear in Millen includes approximately 75 participants and is the first professional theatrical production brought to the community in many years.
