Millen Woman's Club meets The December meeting of the Millen Woman's Club was held at the lovely home of Mrs. Vivian Davis, which was beautifully decorated for Christmas. Assisting Mrs. Davis as hostesses were Elaine Williams and Emily Williams. President Diane Wade called the meeting to order and led the club in the pledge of allegiance to the American flag. Elaine Williams introduced her daughter, Emily, who read an original Christmas poem for the inspiration. Marilyn Knight encouraged the club to nominate a member for the Jennie Award, which is given for outstanding performance in the club, district, state, and nation. She also discussed HOBY and the Leads Program. All members were asked to write down something they had done for Make a Difference Day. Those who participated will receive an antique spoon, as part of the "spoons for leadership" program. Veronica Cowart, Chairman of the Legislative committee, reminded members who are retired state employees to follow stories in their newspapers regarding changes in the cost of their health insurance. For Public Affairs, Marilyn Knight reminded members to buckle their seat belts. Also coupons were collected for servicemen. Diane Wade handed out surveys for the 2007 handbooks. She announced that we need to find a location for the Spring District Meeting which will be held in Millen this year. There was some discussion about whether to include children and/ or teens as models in the Spring Fashion Show. This will depend on whether the sponsoring department store carries clothes for these age groups. President Wade gave all committee and department chairmen a summary sheet of 2006 projects and programs to help in writing up annual reports. The club then nominated members for special awards as follows: the family of Anette Head for Family of the Year; Diane Wade for Outstanding Citizen; Diane Wade for Club Woman of the Year; and Jennifer Wilson for the Jennie Award. |
