Megan Lane, daughter of Richard and Tina Lane, has been named the 2007 STAR student at Jenkins County High School (JCHS). She chose as her STAR teacher, Marsha Madray.

To obtain STAR nomination, a student must have the highest score in one sitting on the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) taken through the November test date of their senior year and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students in their class.

Megan's academic accomplishments include: 6-year recipient of Millen Rotary Club Scholastic Achievement Award, listed in Who's Who Among High School Students and Principal's List recognition.

She is a 4-year member of the school's yearbook staff, presently serving as editor, and is president of the Beta Club. She is a member of the Interact, FFA and 4-H clubs.

Megan plans to attend Georgia Southern University in Statesboro and major in prepharmacy. She will later transfer to the University of Georgia where she will pursue a pharmacy degree.

In choosing Marsha Madray as her STAR teacher, Megan said, "I chose her because she has a genuine compassion for her students. She really cares about your education and tries to make learning as interesting as possible."

Mrs. Madray has been employed by the local school system for six years, teaching biology, anatomy and physiology. She was named JCHS's 2005 Teacher of the Year and Teacher of the Year at Lyons Elementary School in 1992. She annually sponsors a blood drive at JCHS.

Madray holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education and Driver's Education from the University of Georgia, graduating magna cum laude. She also holds a Master's of Education degree from UGA, graduating magna cum laude, and a Master's of Education post graduate degree in Biology, graduating suma cum laude.

She is married to Wendell Madray and they have three sons and one granddaughter.

In commenting on her selection as STAR teacher, Mrs. Madray said, "I have taught Megan for six months in college prep anatomy before she chose me as her STAR teacher. She is never satisfied with doing just enough to get by and has enough self-discipline and motivation to tackle any task put before her. She is a very dependable young lady who has allowed me the privilege of teaching her and exposing her to some of life's most difficult situations. Hopefully, these experiences will help to guide her into making the right choices about her career, but more importantly, about making the right choices in life.
