Emmett Ramsey performs in concert
Millen native and Savannah resident Emmett Ramsey entertained and inspired a group of retired educators and senior citizens last Thursday in the sanctuary of the Millen Baptist Church.
The talented musician, son of retired educator Beulah Ramsey, played the piano and organ in a program of sacred music. A retired educator who taught instrumental and choral music in the Chatham County school system, Mr. Ramsey fills his retirement playing for weddings and banquets. He graduated from Savannah State University and Armstrong Atlantic University, and has studied at Georgia Southern University and the Vandercook School of Music.
Following a number of wellknown hymns, which members of the audience joined in singing, Mr. Ramsey was joined by his wife, Kathy, who provided a beautiful rendition of "Precious Lord, Take My Hand."
Mr. Ramsey was taught piano early in his life here in Millen by Ellen Douglas, also a retired educator. He called her to the piano while he went to the organ, and the pair combined their talents in a duet of "Sweet, Sweet Spirit."
The concert was a program of the Jenkins County Unit of the Georgia Retired Educators Association and followed the monthly luncheon of the Millen Baptist Church Senior Citizens. Millen native Emmett Ramsey recently performed in concert at Millen Baptist Church. (Photo contributed)
