Eagle baseball is underway Baseball season has begun, and the Jenkins County High School varsity Eagles have taken to the diamond to play three games. The Eagles lost 9-8 to East Laurens in a hard fought game Feb. 28. Leading hitters were Zac Clark who was 3-3 with 5 RBIs and a double. Boyd Sasser was 2-3 with a double; Avery McAlpine 1-2 with two walks; and Bob Hoke, 1-3 with a leadoff double. Coach Wendell Clark commented, "Avery McAlpine pitched a great first game of the season. We took him out early on a pitch count. Will Bragg and Aaron Comstock came in to pitch in relief." On March 3, the Eagles lost 13-5 against Cross Creek and 11- 2 against Burke County. Leading hitters in the Cross Creek game were Hoke who was 3-3 with one RBI and a homerun, and Clark 3-4 with two RBIs, a homerun and a double. Coach Clark stated that Hoke pitched a "great game" and added, "We need to play better defense behind him. The 10 runs he gave up were all unearned runs." Trevor Weathersby came in to pitch relief for three innings and gave up only three hits. In the Burke County game, leading hitters were Clark who was 3-3 with a double; Sassser 2-4 with two singles; and Hoke with a homerun. Coach Clark noted that Will Bragg started his first varsity game and "did a good job." Justin Lanier came in as relief. B- Team The Eagles B-team defeated Burke County 12-6 Saturday, March 3. Leading hitters were Ethan Conway who was 2-2 with a double; Spencer Clark and Josh Lee, 2-4 with doubles; and Aaron Comstock, 1-2 with a double. Conway was the winning pitcher with a three hitter and eight strikeouts. |
