Planters offers scholarship

Planters Electric Membership Corporation (EMC) is accepting applications for the Planters EMC Scholarship. All high school seniors who are children of Planters EMC members are eligible to apply.

Applications will be randomly drawn April 26. All applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. Friday, April 20.

Thirty scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each will be awarded. Students may pick up applications at Planters EMC office, from high school guidance counselor or download an application from the Planters EMC website at www.plantersemc. com under Forms.

The scholarships were made possible via Planters EMC's unclaimed capital credits, thanks to a 2005 Georgia law allowing electric membership cooperatives to use the credits after five years for funding education, economic development and/or charitable organizations within the EMC's service area.

In 2006, Planters EMC awarded $31,000 in scholarships to local children.
