Former Jenkins County Extension Service Coordinator Lannie Lanier dropped in the news office on Monday with a big grin on his face. His son, Josh, has recently signed a baseball scholarship with Middle Georgia College, and Lannie was beaming with pride.

Of course, he wanted to advise all of his Jenkins County friends of the news and just happened to have a photo for the newspaper.

It was good to talk with Lannie and hear news of his family and his new job.

As I enjoyed a special song performed by two youth during the morning worship service of West Millen Baptist Church Sunday morning, I was struck with a sense of great admiration for all the youth of our community.

We are blessed to have so many young people who are active in church, community and school activities and who strive to make a difference in the lives of their peers by setting good examples. They are also wonderful role models for we adults as well.

Our youth are the future of our community, and I am very proud of them. Hats off to all of you!
