Fuel partnership is good news The announcement this week of our nation's partnership with Brazil to revolutionize the use of ethanol and other biofuels is welcomed news and a step in the right direction toward addressing the energy and fuel dilemma we could soon be facing in the United States. While attempting to reduce our appetites for fuel and energy is a lofty aspiration that has resulted in the lengthening of Daylight Savings Time (DST) by Congress, the United States, as is most of the world, is a nation dependent upon energy and fuel to sustain our economy and our way of life. That is not likely to change. Our nation's leaders must continue to look for ways of establishing innovative programs and long range planning that is aimed at developing alternative energy and fuel sources. Only by accomplishing this task can we hope to free ourselves as slaves of foreign oil markets. The extra hours of sunlight we enjoy as a result of DST should serve as a reminder that darker days may loom on the horizon unless this nation's energy and fuel demands are given the proper attention. |
