Eagles win one, lose one The Jenkins County High School Eagles varsity baseball team lost to East Laurens 12- 10 March 5 in a hard fought game and won against Glascock 6-5 on March 6. Leading hitters for the Eagles in the March 6 game were Justin Johnson and Bob Hoke, who were both 2-4. Zac Clark was 1-2 with two walks. Aaron Comstock was the losing pitcher in a good effort for his first varsity start. The Eagles' leading hitters in the game against Glascock were Justin Lanier, Zac Clark, Avery McAlpine, Caleb Chance and Justin Johnson. All had hits with Justin Lanier and Zac Clark getting doubles. Zac Clark had two RBIs while Bob Hoke, Caleb Chance and Spencer Clark all had one RBI. Coach Wendell Clark commented on the game and said, "It was a great team effort coming from behind in the seventh inning after giving up the lead in the bottom of the sixth." "Avery McAlpine pitched five strong innings with six strikeouts and only four hits. Ethan Conway came in and got his first varsity win with a great effort striking out two of the last three batters," coach Clark said. The Eagles will face Hephzibah at home Thursday, March 15, at 5:30 p.m. and Burke County at home 6 p.m. Saturday, March 16. B-Team The B-team has a 2-0 record and recently won 8-1 against Statesboro. Leading hitters were Josh Lee, 2-3 with a double and Will Bragg and Robert Sipes, 2-4, with Bragg getting a double. Trevor Weathersby was the winning pitcher with a great effort and having nine strikeouts with no walks. Josh Lee came in as relief the last two innings, striking out five of the last six batters that he faced. The B-team and C-team will play Metter 4 p.m. Thursday, March 15, away and Portal at home Friday, March 16, at 4 p.m. |
