JCHS rack gets underway

The Jenkins County High School girls track team traveled to Swainsboro Tuesday, March 6, for their first track meet of the season.

Coach Chuck Sanders commented, "For this team to be so young, we are very competitive. For most of our girls, this was their first track competition, yet they came out strong and ready to live up to Jenkins County's track reputation."

Jenkins County finished second overall behind Swainsboro with Metter finishing third. The team was lead by seniors, Ashley Ball and Jennifer Jones placing first and second, respectively, in the shot put and discus competition followed by freshman, Deondra Lewis, finishing third.

Senior, Latonia Lovett took first place in the long jump and third in the 100m hurdles. Sophomore, Andrea Pittman had an impressive day finishing first place in the 2 mile event and second in the 1 mile event. Also placing for the Eagles, sophomore Porshea Cooper, third in the 400 meter race.

The Lady Eagle' team is led by seniors Ashley Ball, Jennifer Jones and Latonia Lovett. Other members include Julie Drake, Chalexis Herrington, Porshea Cooper, Alaina Davis, Shanekqua Hudson, Hayley Newton, Andrea Pittman, Natalie Branch, Christian Chance, Deondra Lewis, Gena Patterson, Shondra Summers and manager Kendra Walton.
