JCHS goes 0-4 for the week The Jenkins County High School Eagles baseball team played four games last week and came away without a victory despite a valiant effort by players. On March 10, the Eagles lost to Morgan County 17-10. Leading hitters for the Eagles were Boyd Sasser, 2-4 with two doubles and two RBIs; Bob Hoke, Zac Clark, Justin Lanier, Justin Johnson, Spencer Clark and Will Bragg, 1-2, and Caleb Chance, 1-1. The losing pitcher was Trevor Weathersby The Eagles lost a second game 10-4 to Aquinas. Leading hitters for the Eagles were Bob Hoke, 3-3; Caleb Chance, Spencer Clark, Taylor Frawley, 2-3; and Avery McAlpine, 2-4. The losing pitcher was Bob Hoke. On March 13, the Eagles were defeated 17-5 by Portal. Leading hitters were Caleb Chance and Spencer Clark, 1-2 with 2 RBIs; and Boyd Sasser, Zac Clark and Justin Lanier, 1-3 with one RBI each. The losing pitcher was Avery McAlpine. March 15, the Eagles lost 4- 2 in a hard fought battle against Hephzibah. Leading hitters were Caleb Chance, 2-3 with a double and two RBIs and Spencer Clark 1-2. The losing pitcher was Ethan Conway. "Ethan put in a great effort in his first varsity start as freshman and had a complete game with four strikeouts and no walks. It was all done on a 100- pitch count for the day," said coach Wendell Clark. B-Team The B-team defeated Screven County 12-2 on March 8. Leading hitters were Trevor Weathersby 2-2 with a triple and two walks; Spencer Clark, 3-4 with a double and a RBI; Justin Johnson and Robert Sipes, 2-3; Will Bragg, 2-4 with 4 RBIs; and Josh Lee, 2-4 with two RBIs. The winning pitcher was Ethan Conway with nine strikeouts, one walk, and only one run scored. Will Bragg came in with a fine relief effort with two strikeouts and only one run scored. On March 12, the Eagles defeated Southeast Bulloch 13-5. Leading hitters were Josh Lee, 3-3; Dag Gay, 2-2 with two walks and two RBIs and a double; Will Bragg, 1-1 with a double; Trevor Weathersby, 2- 3; Robert Sipes, 2-4; and Ethan Conway, 3-5 with two doubles. Winning pitcher Josh Lee had four strikeouts and two walks. Spencer Clark came in relief with a fine effort of two innings with no hits scoreless innings. Coach Wendell Clark commented, "The B-team is off to a 4-0 start. This group can really hit. We have eight players with over a .500 batting average on the season. The pitchers are doing a great job of throwing strikes without giving up a lot of walks. That spells wins in a lot of games." |
