The local 2007-2008 Teachers of the Year were announced during the Monday, March 19, meeting of the Jenkins County Board of Education (BOE). They are Eleanor Jackson, Jenkins County Elementary School; Lynn Rhodes, Jenkins County Middle School (JCMS); and Marsha Madray, Jenkins County High School (JCHS). Congratulations were offered by BOE members.

It was also announced that JCMS has 30 honor graduates from the class of 2007, and JCHS has 19 honor graduates. Dr. Joey Kirkland, who serves as principal for both schools, praised the students for their efforts in maintaining a 90 average throughout their middle school and high school years.

In other business, Clintondra Wadley presented a list of questions and concerns to BOE members concerning addendums to the JCHS handbook. Jenkins County School Superintendent Joan Blackwood is to review the questions and respond in writing to Wadley.

A request for use of facilities at JCHS on Aug. 18 for a HERO training session was made by Nan Searles of the Jenkins County Family Enrichment Center and approved by the BOE.

Extended Day pay was approved for vocational teachers who complete a program of work approved by the Department of Education.

Also approved was the employment of Jena Gaiser as Jenkins County School Food Service assistant cashier/technical assistant.

Superintendent Blackwood presented certificates of appreciation to board members in conjunction with the Georgia School Board's statewide recognition program.
