JCHS wins one, loses two on the diamond

The Jenkins County High School varsity Eagles played three games last week, coming away with one win and two losses.

On March 16, the Eagles lost to Burke County 7-4. Leading hitters for the Eagles were Caleb Chance and Spencer Clark who each were 2-3. Trevor Weathersby went 1-3 with a double and two RBIs and Bob Hoke had a homerun.

Coach Wendell Clark commented, "Aaron Comstock pitched a great game pitching five scoreless innings. In the sixth inning, he gave up a homerun. That really fired Burke County up with six hits in a row to tie the game up."

Will Bragg and Avery McAlpine came in as relief during the sixth and seventh innings.

March 20, the Eagles lost 13-0 to Calvary Baptist. Leading hitters were Justin Johnson, 1-1; Avery McAlpine, 1-2; and Boyd Sasser, 1-3.

Coach Clark noted that Ethan Conway pitched a good game against the number four team in the state. Bob Hoke came in as relief.

The Eagles defeated Screven County 9-8 March 21. Leading hitters were Caleb Chance, 2-3 with a double; Justin Johnson, 2- 3; and Bob Hoke and Boyd Sasser, 2-4 with three RBIs.

The winning pitcher was Avery McAlpine with a complete game. He also had the winning RBI in the bottom of the sixth.

"Great game," commented Coach Clark.

B-Team

The B-team Eagles played three games the past week, coming away with two wins and their first loss. The B-team is now 6-1 for the season.

On March 15, the Eagles were defeated 7-6 by Screven County. Leading hitters were Aaron Comstock, 3-3 with two RBIs; Robert Sipes, 3-4; and Justin Johnson and Trevor Weathersby, 2-4.

Trevor Weathersby pitched five strong innings with five strikeouts. Will Bragg came in relief giving up only two hits.

The young Eagles lost their first game in a tough way, by a walk off homerun.

Jenkins County defeated Burke County 10-6 March 16. Leading hitters were Dag Gay, 2-2 with two walks; Justin Johnson and Will Bragg, 2-3 with two doubles; and Ethan Conway, 2-4.

Winning pitcher Josh Lee pitched all seven innings with 10 strikeouts and only one walk on less than a 100-pitch count.

Coach Tamorieo Mincey commented, "A great game with them rallying back in the spirit of winning after a tough loss the day before to Screven County."

On March 19, the Eagles defeated Statesboro 13-3. Leading hitters were Trevor Weathersby, 3-3 with a double; Dag Gay, 2-2 with two walks, and Justin Johnson and Spencer Clark, 2-3 with doubles and four RBIs.

Winning pitcher Will Bragg pitched the entire game with three strikeouts and only one walk on less than 100-pitch count.

The varsity and B-team will play Metter at home March 28 beginning at 4 p.m. and Bryan County on the road, March 30, at 4 p.m. The varsity Eagles will face Savannah Country Day on the road 4 p.m. April 3.
