County cleanup day set for Saturday

Local residents are invited to participate in a county-wide cleanup day Saturday, April 14. The activity is being held in conjunction with the state's Cleanup and Keep Georgia Beautiful campaign throughout the month of April. Sponsors are Millen Better Hometown, Jenkins County Commissioners, City of Millen and Jenkins County Chamber of Commerce.

Participants are to meet at the Millen Community House at 8 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. where they will be given gloves, trash bags and vests. Groups may pick these items up from the chamber office April 9-14.

Participants are asked to pick up trash until noon and then bring the bags of refuse to the Jenkins County Courthouse square.

The City of Millen participates by picking up trash citywide prior to April 14. City residents may place tires on the curb by Thursday, April 12, for pick up.

County residents may leave white goods (refrigerators, freezers, etc.) at the nearest county dumpsters where they will be picked up. Items may also be taken to the Jenkins County Landfill April 12-14. Tipping fees will be waived for personal disposal.

For information on scrap metal dealers that will purchase abandoned vehicles or for more information on the cleanup day, call the chamber office at 982-5595.
