BOE deals with personnel matters The Jenkins County Board of Education (BOE) set about the task of getting school staff in place for the 2007-2008 school when the group met Monday, April 16. The BOE accepted the resignations of Laurie Sherrod, special education teacher at the Jenkins County Elementary School, and Virgil Rainey, agriculture teacher at Jenkins County High School (JCHS). Josh Fleming, a JCHS graduate, was approved as agriculture teacher to replace Mr. Rainey, and another JCHS graduate, Valen Burke, was approved as English teacher at JCHS. Also approved were Mark Whitt, physical education teacher and head boys' basketball coach at JCHS, and Harriett Mazyck, RiverQuest School. In other matters, John Tuten, architect, presented construction quotes for several items in connection with completion of the new gymnasium at JCHS. These included fill material for the south entrance of the building, sidewalks, sanitary sewer lines, storm sewer lines and water/fire lines. After discussion of the matter, the BOE asked for a detailed breakdown of the information. Eddie Potts of Lavender Construction, project engineer, reported that completion of the gymnasium could come in July or August. A school calendar for the 2007-2008 school year was approved with the BOE accepting the calendar voted upon by school employees. Several fundraising activities were also approved. |
