EOCTs to be administered May 7-11

End-of-course tests (EOCTs) will be given at Jenkins County High School May 7-11 in the areas of algebra I, geometry, ninth-grade literature and composition, 11th-grade literature and composition, physical science, biology, U.S. history and economics.

EOCTs are given at the end or completion of the course covered by the exam. The present administration results will be made a part of the transcripts of each student who must participate. EOCT results must be used as the semester exam for the given course and must be used to calculate the final grade for the course.

Each EOCT will account for 15 percent of the final grade and the resulting average must equal a 70 or above for the student to earn credit for the course.

Student performance on the EOCTs will also be used diagnostically to determine readiness for the Georgia High School Graduation Test, which is administered in the student's junior year of high school with successful completion being a determinant for graduation.

Students must continue to pass the Georgia High School Graduation Test in English, math, science, social studies and writing assessment in order to earn a diploma. The High School Graduation Test will remain the accountability measure used to determine Adequate Yearly Progress for high school in Georgia in accordance with the federal No Child Left Behind Act.

Each test contains two sections with 45 questions in each section. A five minute break is mandated between the two sections of the test. The entire administration, both sections included, should take approximately two hours.

Calculators, with the exception of graphing calculators and calculators with the capacity to store text, are allowed on the algebra I, geometry, economics/ business/free enterprise and the physical science EOCT.

Any student missing the regular administration of an EOCT must be administered the make-up for the specific EOCT within the scheduled testing window (May 7-11).
